Intumescent Paint
Passive Fire Protection for Steel Structures
Intumescent coatings are wet-applied, thin-film paint systems that play a vital role in passive fire protection for structural steel. When exposed to heat, the paint expands into a thick charred layer, insulating the steel and delaying the structural failure that can occur in a fire. This provides valuable time for evacuation and firefighting, and can reduce the need for additional fireproofing materials or physical barriers.
NSP’s fire-rated intumescent paint services are carried out by skilled applicators using professional spray equipment, and each job is meticulously planned to meet project-specific fire resistance durations (typically 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes).
We work with leading manufacturers of intumescent systems and follow their guidelines precisely. AegisCoatings include both wet and powder systems and are only compliant when applied to exact thicknesses (known as dry film thickness or DFT) that are matched to the steel section sizes and loading requirements.

A2 Standard Powder Coating

The second key system within AegisCoatings is our A2 fire-rated powder coating, designed to meet the EN13501-1 A2-s1,d0 classification – one of the most demanding European standards for reaction to fire.
This type of coating is ideal for aluminium façades, rainscreen cladding, interior panelling, signage, and ceiling tiles where both a decorative finish and high fire performance are required. Unlike standard powder coatings, A2-compliant systems are formulated without combustible resins or additives, and must be applied and cured within strict process tolerances.
At NSP, our facility is fully equipped to manage large-scale architectural panels and production runs. Every A2 powder coating project is treated with a high level of care, including pre-treatment, film build control, and visual inspection – all part of our QA process.
As with our intumescent paint systems, AegisCoatings include both wet and powder systems and can only be certified if applied in strict accordance with manufacturer guidance, specified film thickness, and required testing standards.
